If winning games is ultimately the most important measurement of success, Cal Petersen is doing just that. With a 3-1 victory in Edmonton on Wednesday night, the 28-year-old netminder has now earned victories in back-to-back games and won five of the seven games he’s started this season.
It’s his other stats that remain a work in progress, where he’s holding a 3.59 goals against average and .878 save percentage. For now, he’ll gladly take the wins and keep moving forward.
Not only was Wednesday night an opportunity for Petersen to help the Kings earn a valuable two points, the game also was a small mark of redemption for Edmonton eliminating LA from last year’s playoffs. Only a tiny bit, though, as real redemption comes in the postseason.

Forward Trevor Moore provided the offense, recording his first career hat trick. And in addition to a plethora of blocked shots, the collective team defense snapped an 11-game point streak for Leon Draisaitl and 10-game point streak for Connor McDavid.
Below are select highlights from the game:
Additional Post-Game Notes:
— Moore is the sixth California-born skater in league history to record a hat trick and marks the first hat trick by an LA King skater since Viktor Arvidsson on March 4, 2022 vs. Columbus.
— Arvidsson assisted on all three of Moore’s goals for his third career three-assist game to surpass the 300-point plateau for his NHL career.
— Phillip Danault won 91% of his faceoffs (10-of-11), establishing a new single game career-high faceoff winning percentage.
— The Kings had a season-high 29 blocked shots, marking the third time in franchise history the Kings have blocked 29 or more shots in a game (31 blocks, Feb. 19, 2018 vs. Chicago; 29 blocks, Dec. 22, 2018 vs. San Jose).
— The Kings improve to 8-1 when leading after two periods. Only New Jersey (10-0-0), Boston (9-0-0) and Dallas (9-0-0) have more wins in that scenario.
