Having already secured three wins thus far on their homestand, the Kings are looking to close things out with a perfect 4-0 record on Saturday night. Standing in their way will be a Detroit Red Wings team who have dropped two straight and fell to LA 5-4 in overtime last month.
With his team on a mild hot streak, coach Todd McLellan isn’t expected to tweak his lineup very much for this one – sans swapping out who is in goal. If that holds, it leads to an interesting scenario that should play itself out over the next 24 hours. By scratching rookie Brandt Clarke for the fifth straight game, he would now be eligible for a two-week conditioning assignment in the AHL — even though, technically, he isn’t eligible to be assigned to the AHL long-term. With the Kings set to fly to Calgary tomorrow to begin a four-game road trip, there is a possibility Clarke won’t be on that plane. Would he be assigned in time for tomorrow’s Reign home game? That remains to be seen. If they miss that window, Ontario won’t play again until next Friday, which would give him time to get a few practices in with the club.
It’s a scenario similar to what happened with Brayden Schenn 12 years ago:
