In a rematch of their 2021-22 season opener, the Kings and Golden Knights once again hooked up to start of their 82-game campaigns. And things didn’t exactly mirror the last time, on either side of the puck.
Todd used "stupidity" and "self-inflicted" in his opening comments.

McLellan — We wasted an outstanding goaltending perfomance tonight.

McLellan when I asked about Vilardi playing RW3 tonight — He was one of our better players tonight… He earned his ice time with his play during camp… Driving home tonight, we won't be too worried about No. 13.

Vilardi saying all the right things. Talking about taking it one game at a time, building on the positives, etc. He was happy to be on the third line tonight — after coming into camp without a defined roster spot — but notes he has to keep playing well to stay in the lineup.

Kopitar — This is certainly a loss that is tough to swallow right now because there's a couple goals that were clearly off our mistakes.
Any positives tonight? We scored a power play goal and we battled back a couple of times from behind, especially in the third.

Vilardi also praised new Kings assistant coach Jim Hiller quite a bit when asked about the power play:
We're working on it a lot in practice. Hillsy is unreal; very smart with what we're doing. I like it a lot. As a hockey guy, it's pretty cool to watch.
