Truth be told, this isn’t the Penguins game everybody circled on their calendars coming into this season — that’s the February game in LA, where Dustin Brown will have his jersey retired.
Nonetheless, coach Todd McLellan and his band of merry men arrive in Pittsburgh riding a three-game winning streak and looking to keep the good times rolling. Last season, the Kings topped the Penguins in both meetings, winning by scores of 6-2 and 4-3. Jonathan Quick and Cal Petersen each scored a victory in those games. Additionally, from the ‘hard to believe’ department, Jeff Carter was held off the scoresheet in both contests.
Heading into Game 6 of the season, most of the Kings line combos are fairly set. However, Jaret Anderson-Dolan is going to have to get into a game at some point, isn’t he? Even though coaches usually don’t like to change their lineups coming off a win, LA will be playing their third game in four nights on Thursday… and McLellan had previously referenced getting everybody involved during the road trip.
On defense, Alex Edler’s availability remains in question coming off the injury he suffered in warmups on Monday.
Also of note, we checked in on the status of Alex Iafallo and his leg injury and it doesn’t sound like he’ll be back soon. However, the exact timeframe hasn’t been established yet, it’s still being categorized as week-to-week.
