For Game 2 of Ontario’s 2022-23 season, it’s Kings v. Oilers – the AHL edition.
Over the past few seasons, Bakersfield has become one of Ontario’s biggest rivals. And the fact that both teams have been much improved over that time frame only adds to the intrigue. Don’t be fooled by the Reign going 5-2-1 against the Condors; nearly every game was a dog fight. Six of the eight contests were decided by just one goal.
On the positive side, coach Marco Sturm and staff had the Reign offense in overdrive for Opening Night on Friday. Three of the team’s eight goals (!) came on the powerplay. More from Game 1, including video highlights, can be accessed via a link at the end of this article.
Heading into Game 2 on Sunday at Toyota Arena, look for Tyler Madden to draw in for his season debut. He missed Friday’s game with an illness, yet is believed to be ready to go. Forward Martin Chromiak and defenseman Kim Nousiainen remain out, listed day-to-day for now.
Few number changes for Ontario Reign…
Kim Nousiainen is now wearing No. 6, after making his AHL debut wearing No. 10 late last season.
Meanwhile, Tyler Madden has switched from No. 27 to 10. He missed Friday's season opener with an illness. May play tomorrow. pic.twitter.com/ZiZt8k3ATQ
