SCOUTING REPORTS

From Elite Prospects:

The hope is that Salin will return to the form that made him such an exciting prospect coming into the season and a commanding presence on the Finnish blue line at the Hlinka, and that his work from about December onward this season was an aberration. With course correction and some improvement to his pace, you may be able to get a do-everything bottom-pairing defenceman out of Salin.

From Future Considerations:

Otto Salin is a very confident defenseman, using his strong skating and offensive mindset to drive play up ice. When he has the puck on his stick, he is very calm regardless of what end of the ice he’s in. There’s a patience in his game that allows him to slow the game down and give himself the space and time he needs to make plays.

From Hockey Prospect:

Salin is a good skater who is strong on his skates with a powerful stride. He’s not a flashy defenseman but can skate the puck out of his zone and away from pressure. He won’t do anything worthwhile with it once in the offensive zone, though. His offensive style of play is pretty simplistic, he can shoot the puck with authority from the point (using his hard, heavy slapper) but he won’t wow anyone with his playmaking or creativity. He doesn’t project to be a good offensive contributor at the next level. His defense and physical abilities are what will enable him to possibly become an NHLer in the future.
