SCOUTING REPORTS
From Hockey Prospect:
Sparkes will also need to develop his defensive game to become more involved. While aided by his reach, he offers little in the way of actively engaging opponents and can sometimes be caught without picking up a man during quickly developing plays, nor is he always able to direct and take away space from the puck carrier. Further, despite his stature, and providing the occasional hit, he doesn’t always offer an effective physical presence to separate opponents from the puck and can even lose his footing quite easily when met with contact, proving not to be a significant presence in puck battles. Bringing little in the way of offense, moving forward, Sparkes may also benefit from further utilizing his size to his advantage and should look to improve his strength and stability as he’ll likely look to fill the role of a physical defender.
From McKeen’s:
Massive right shot defender who played out of the OJHL with St. Michael’s this year. The four-way mobility is limited, but he is incredibly physical and does possess some potential as a stay-at-home type. Has a commitment to Michigan State.
