Opening Day of the LA Kings 2022 Development Camp wrapped up with an afternoon scrimmage. It was won by the White team, with goals via Jack Hughes (2022 selection), Arthur Kaliyev (NHL), and Alex Laferriere (2020 selection, currently at Harvard). The latter also assisted on the first goal of the game, while the third goal was assisted by 2021 first-round selection, Brandt Clarke.
We have more on Hughes, who was selected at No. 51 last week, here.
For a look at the full roster and this week’s schedule, see yesterday’s article here.

Unfortunately, they weren't able to get an updated height measurement on Andre Lee this morning. A new, longer tape measure has been ordered. Should have new stats later this week. #LAKDevCamp pic.twitter.com/vNAjwqnGSN

Fun Fact
Kaleb Lawrence had already committed to another NHL team's Dev Camp this summer. The Kings were interested in him. So, if they wanted him, they had to select him at the Draft.
And that's what they did. #LAKDevCamp

Byfield wanted to make sure I knew he brought two Dodgers hats with him this week. He has the traditional blue gamer and a black one. One is for to/from the rink and one is for workouts. @byfield55 gets it.

Brandt Clarke shared that he's been watching lots of video (of Dan Boyle etc) w/ Dev Coach Sean O'Donnell. He wants to make a push for an NHL job in camp. Says the team has communicated they know he has the offensive flair, but have been focusing on the word "trust" quite a bit.

Byfield on McLellan asking him, Björnfot, Kaliyev & Spence to take on a leadership role this week:
It's definitely different. Every year, you wanna come in and prove yourself. However, when coaches lean on you to help the younger guys – which is weird for me to say – it's nice.
— The Mayor | John Hoven (@mayorNHL) July 11, 2022
Andre Lee on his mindset:
I was a little bit more nervous coming into my first Dev Camp. Now, I just want to go out there and do my thing; then get better at the things I need to work on. That's what this is for. pic.twitter.com/lIQjSnLzKB

Lee on the Kings adding some taller players at the Draft — "It's always fun to have some tall guys on the team!"
Yet, he jokingly denied calling the LA Kings scouts and asking them to select another gigantic winger to put on his line with Helenius in AHL Ontario. pic.twitter.com/JR1tBO7WEQ

BREAKING NEWS@brandtclarke55 loves talking hockey!
He seamlessly worked into today's conversation the Kings acquiring an "85 point forward" + "Björnfot has over 100 games of NHL experience" etc.

Clarke being Clarke…
Had no problem telling me that he was rocking some peach fuzz above his upper lip to try and make himself look a little bit older. Said he thought it looked good a couple of months ago, but shaved it off and then realized he had too much of a baby face.
— The Mayor | John Hoven (@mayorNHL) July 12, 2022
Aatu Jamsen said he's really happy to be in LA this summer, after having to skip camp last year.
Re: Him being one of the faster players out there today, "I was?"
Went on to say he's been hanging around w/ other Finns so far. Promised me he would make new friends before Friday.
