As the 2021-22 AHL season winds to a close over the next weeks, things are shaping up for an Ontario v San Diego round one matchup come playoff time. In the meantime, it’s Ontario’s playoff nemesis from last season that’s immediately in front of them. They’ll kick off a three-game series beginning Wednesday night in Colorado.
When the Reign and Eagles met up in Ontario earlier this season, the home team finished with a 1-1-1 record. Last season, the Reign were 4-2 against the Eagles, prior to being eliminated by Colorado in a single-game playoff format.
This week’s trio of games may still be regular season games, yet they’ll likely have that Calder Cup Playoff feel.
