While the Kings and Ducks are both seemingly in a tight playoff race in the NHL’s Pacific Division, more than 20 points separate their AHL affiliates. Ontario is just two points back of first place; a far cry from San Diego, who are just five points out of last place entering play on Saturday.
Regardless of what the standings say, though, the Reign and Gulls arguably remain the best rivalry in all of minor league hockey. Expect nothing less in their home-and-home this weekend. Kings prospect Alex Turcotte, who missed Monday’s game in Bakersfield will sit out at least the first game on Saturday — recovering from an injury received last Saturday vs. Stockton. However, he has not yet been ruled out for Sunday’s rematch with the Gulls in Ontario.
Another Kings prospect, Gabe Vilardi, remains one of the hottest players for the Reign. He has played a more than point-per-game clip this season and has 13 goals in 28 games. Over his most recent 10 games played, Vilardi has recorded six goals and 12 points.
Sammy Fagemo and Rasmus Kupari will be reunited tonight, as will Aidan Dudas and Akil Thomas. Both duos were productive when paired together last season.
