LA Kings Projected Lineup vs. NY Islanders; Preceded by State of the Franchise Meeting

February 26, 2022 By MayorsManor Staff

Friday night brought the Kings closer to a near perfect 10. With a victory in Anaheim, LA’s hockey club has now pushed their recent road record to 8-0-2.

It was a victory that also helped propel them into second place in the Pacific Division.

Now, after what feels like forever, coach Todd McLellan and his team return home to face the visiting New York Islanders.

Update

Todd McLellan has entered COVID protocol

Assistant coach Trent Yawney will serve as acting head coach tonight

— The Mayor | John Hoven (@mayorNHL) February 26, 2022

In place of McLellan, assistant coach Trent Yawney filled in behind the bench on Friday night. We’re still awaiting word on if he’ll also be pinch hitting at this afternoon’s State of the Franchise event scheduled with Season Ticket Members. NOTE: MayorsManor will live tweet key notes shared at the event.

Today's Kings question…

How many total shots on goal will LA be credited with vs. NYI tonight?

— The Mayor | John Hoven (@mayorNHL) February 27, 2022

On the Islanders side of things:

No lineup changes for #Isles tonight other than Varlamov.

— Kevin Kurz (@KKurzNHL) February 26, 2022

Zdeno Chara now officially the all-time leader in games played among defenseman with 1652, breaking it on the rink where the all-time leader, Patrick Marleau, played most of his.

— Kevin Kurz (@KKurzNHL) February 25, 2022

From when the Kings last hosted the Islanders in 2019, only 7 of the 18 skaters dressed that night are still on the roster. From the 2018 meeting, only 3 of 18 are here today.

Couple of injuries make that stat pop but really puts the roster turnover into perspective.

KINGS MILESTONES WITHIN REACH

Anze Kopitar — needs 21 points to pass Dave Taylor for third on the Kings all-time scoring list

Dustin Brown — 6 goals away from passing Bernie Nicholls for fifth place in Kings franchise history

Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30pm PST tonight and the game will be televised on Bally Sports Network.
