Ontario Reign: Lineup Changes for Rematch with Abbotsford Canucks

December 1, 2021 By MayorsManor Staff

It was a game they should have won.

Coulda, shoulda, woulda though.

The Reign penalty kill continues to struggle (it’s near the bottom of the league), while their normally strong power play (it’s near the best in the league) didn’t cash in as needed.

In a 3-2 loss, Ontario went 0-for-5 with the man advantage, while giving up a power play goal to Abbotsford. A goal that was the difference between being tied after 60 minutes and coming away with a point for the standings.

Looking to jumpstart his offense a bit, coach John Wroblewski appears to be shaking things up a bit with his forwards heading into tonight’s rematch vs. the Canucks. Most notably, Alex Turcotte will move back up to the 1C and he’s bringing Vladimir Tkachev with him — it will be the 26-year-old Russian’s first top line duty since being assigned to Ontario about a month ago.

Turcotte had one of the two Reign goals on Tuesday night:

ONTARIO REIGN PROJECTED LINEUP vs. ABBOTSFORD on 12/1

Tkachev – Turcotte – Vilardi
Madden – Tynan – Frk
Johnson – JAD – Fagemo
Wagner – Sutter – Dudas

Other options include: Burke, Doty, and Sodergran

Phillips – Strand
Moverare – Spence
Gaunce – Grans

Other options include: Russell

Sparks (starter)
Villalta

Additional notes:

— As MayorsManor first reported earlier this week, Akil Thomas is scheduled to make his return this weekend vs. Bakersfield.

— With Doughty now back and healthy in LA, we’d expect one of Durzi / Clague to be returned to Ontario in the days ahead. Because Clague would first need to clear waivers before being sent back to Ontario (as he’s played more than 10 NHL games and been on the NHL roster for more than 30 days since his recall), it’s most likely Durzi who will be assigned to the Reign.

— Look for a familiar face to be around again soon…

Christian Wolanin was claimed on waivers by the Kings (from Buffalo) and has been assigned to AHL Ontario.

— Defenseman Helge Grans will be departing for Team Sweden and the World Junior Championships in less than two weeks.

— Martin Frk was honored by the AHL earlier today…

The hardware keeps coming in for @Frky91 who has been named @TheAHL's Player of the Month for November! 🏆

Also be sure to check out our all new interview with coach John Wroblewski linked below. It was an in-depth conversation about Turcotte, Vilardi, Anderson-Dolan, Strand, Grans, and a whole lot more.

Puck drop is scheduled for 7pm tonight in Abbotsford and the game can be viewed on AHL TV.
