Coming off the wildly successful Reverse Retro jerseys from earlier this year, the LA Kings have some changes coming to their sweater lineup for the 2021-22 season… and it’s probably not what you’re thinking.
Allow me to explain.
Looking a Little Further Out
For starters, the Forum blue and gold Reverse Retros will not be coming back next season. As we reported previously, that version of the RR jersey was supposed to be a one-and-done design. Unfortunately, few fans were actually able to see them live in person due to the pandemic. Yet, we did appreciate it when AEG Sports COO Kelly Cheeseman used our idea to add an extra RR home game late in the season, once fans were allowed back inside Staples Center. That at least provided a small group of fans the opportunity to witness the Kings Reverse Retros in all their glory during some game action against the Anaheim Ducks.
Given how popular the overall Reverse Retro program was, we’ve heard (and had it confirmed) there are plans for version 2.0 of the idea to debut around the league as early as October 2022. Will the Kings perhaps use a white version of the 2021 RR jersey? Would they maybe use the RR concept to create all new jersey from a different era?
That remains to be seen and we can put a pin in that topic for now. If you simply can’t wait, here’s a look at one of the dozen or so potential designs we shared previously (with the other jersey ideas available at this link):
Again, though, all of the Reverse Retro 2.0 stuff is at least another year away.
So, what about this upcoming season?
LA Kings Jersey Changes for 2021-22
Here’s what’s currently happening…
From what we’re hearing, the Kings will only have three jerseys for the 2021-22 season — their current black home jersey, their current white road jersey, and a new alternate jersey.
The current silver alternate jersey (pictured above) will be going into the vault for a while. MayorsManor has confirmed LA will only wear three jerseys total over the course of their upcoming 82-game regular season schedule.
What will this new jersey look like? That’s still a bit of an unknown.
We’ll continue to dig and bring you more information as we confirm it via our various sources.
One thing we do know is that the team is very interested in making sure the manufacturing supply chain is adequality prepared for fan reaction to the newly designed jersey. Many fans were left out in the cold when the Reverse Retro jerseys sold out so quickly. In a perfect world, the supply will be available to meet the demand for the team’s new alternate sweater currently being developed.
Specialty Sweaters
In recent years the Kings have introduced several new jerseys, including:
2016 — 50th Anniversary jersey
2018 — Silver Alternate jersey
2020 — Stadium Series jersey
Speaking of outdoor games, here’s one more tangentially related note to the jersey info above. From what we hear, the Kings will not be playing in any outdoor games the next two seasons, nor are they scheduled to play internationally (Europe, China, etc). The long rumored outdoor game vs. Vegas will have to wait until at least 2023-24.

Those silver sweaters look like battleship grey on a TV monitor, i.e. they look like canine regurgitation. Don’t put them in a vault; burn them, burn the prototypes, and burn any computer that houses the data that could recreate them. /rant
I hope they go away from silver for the alternates. I like the jersey, but is really stupid wearing them against white sweaters.
Go back to the “Forum Blue & Gold” & classic crown….
+1
They need more than jerseys
Hate it!
Hate what exactly?
Until I see at least a little purple/gold, all the jerseys are poor. Really tired of no color.
