This Date in LA Kings History: July 1st

From their humble beginning as one of the NHL’s Second Six expansion teams in 1967, through winning two Stanley Cups in three years and becoming a league powerhouse in 2012-14, the LA Kings have experienced a rich hockey history over the past 50-plus years. Below are some key franchise moments that occurred on this date.

On July 1, 1968, the @LAKings acquired Larry Cahan from the Montreal Canadiens for Yves Locas and Brian Smith. In three seasons with the #LAKings, Cahan scored 40 points in 209 games, and served as team captain for two seasons.#GoKingsGo pic.twitter.com/z5xiyifFiz

On July 1, 2006, the @LAKings signed free agent defenseman Rob Blake to a two-year, $12 million contract. In his second stint with the #LAKings, Blake scored 23 goals, 65 points, and delivered 188 hits in 143 games.#GoKingsGo pic.twitter.com/ZuqRQTqtse
