From their humble beginning as one of the NHL’s Second Six expansion teams in 1967, through winning two Stanley Cups in three years and becoming a league powerhouse in 2012-14, the LA Kings have experienced a rich hockey history over the past 50-plus years. Below are some key franchise moments that occurred on this date.

On July 16, 1997, the @LAKings signed Olli Jokinen to a three-year contract. Jokinen won gold with Finland at the 1998 World Junior Championship, and was named NHL Rookie of the Month in November of '98 when he scored four goals and eight points in 11 games.#LAKings #GoKingsGo pic.twitter.com/pFllqkaiv2

On July 16, 2002, the @LAKings acquired Derek Armstrong from the New York Rangers for a sixth round pick. In six seasons with the #LAKings, Armstrong scored 63 goals and 202 points in 385 games, and currently serves as a Director in the Hockey Development program.#GoKingsGo pic.twitter.com/Sp8mfYH5Fl

On July 16, 2013, the @LAKings acquired Daniel Carcillo from the Chicago Blackhawks for a sixth round draft pick. Carcillo scored two points, registered 54 hits, and recorded 57 penalty minutes in 26 games with the #LAKings.#GoKingsGo pic.twitter.com/WZptfXrtMv
