In advance of next season, the NHL released a full 82-game season schedule today for all 32 teams. However, an asterisk can be placed on games scheduled after January.
Currently, there are plans in place to take a multi-week break from the NHL action so players can participate in the 2022 Winter Olympics. Getting all of the final details nailed down to make that actually happen is still a work in progress and time has just about run out. Should the league and the IIOC not come to an agreement soon, look for the NHL to pull the plug on the idea and essentially shift up the final few weeks of their 2021-22 season, thus closing the gap that currently exists in February.
More from the NHL on this issue, “If, for whatever reason, there’s no NHL Player participation in the Olympics,a revised Regular Season schedule will be released which,to the greatest extent possible, will adopt the dates and games reflected in the schedule contemplating Olympic participation.”
Meaning, they would try their best to just take all games scheduled after about April 15 and reschedule them to be in the window currently set aside for the Olympics (approximately Feb. 5-20). It most likely wouldn’t be a perfect plug and play, though.
As it stands, the Kings schedule features:
October (5 HOME, 4 ROAD)
November (8 HOME, 4 ROAD)
December (6 HOME, 8 ROAD)
January (7 HOME, 7 ROAD)
February (2 HOME, 3 ROAD)
March (8 HOME, 8 ROAD)
April (5 HOME, 7 ROAD)
LA Kings 2021-22 regular season highlights:
— Season opener is Thurs, Oct 14 vs VGK.
— Kings play the Seattle Kraken for the first time on January 15 in Seattle. The Kraken visit LA for the first time on March 26.
— Seven of the club’s first 11 games are at STAPLES Center.
— The Mayor (@mayorNHL) July 22, 2021
Additional schedule highlights:
– The Kings first play the rival Anaheim Ducks on November 30 at STAPLES Center, the first of four contests against Anaheim.
– The Kings play the defending Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning twice – at Tampa on December 14 and at home on January 18.
– The club’s 2021-21 local (Bally Sports West) and national TV schedule (ESPN, Turner Sports, Sportsnet and TVA Sports) will be released at a later date.
– All Kings games are slated to again be streamed live on the LA Kings (iHeartRadio) Audio Network and select home games will be aired in Spanish on KWKW 1330 AM TU LIGA.
– All game times are still TBD, as the NHL continues to work with ESPN, Turner, and other broadcast partners. From what we understand, the working plan is to have equal representation on ESPN/Turner from all 32 teams, an effort to avoid the complaint in recent years of many of the same teams often being featured on national broadcasts.
