From their humble beginning as one of the NHL’s Second Six expansion teams in 1967, through winning two Stanley Cups in three years and becoming a league powerhouse in 2012-14, the LA Kings have experienced a rich hockey history over the past 50-plus years. Below are some key franchise moments that occurred on this date.

On June 23, 1975, the @LAKings compensated the Red Wings for signing Marcel Dionne to a five-year, $1.5 million contract the week prior. On June 23, 2009, Luc Robitaille, the all-time leading goal scorer in @LAKings' history, was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame Class of 2009. On June 23, 2011, the @LAKings acquired Mike Richards and Rob Bordson from the Flyers for Brayden Schenn, Wayne Simmonds and a second round pick. On June 23, 2013, the @LAKings acquired Matt Frattin, Ben Scrivens, and a second round draft pick from Toronto for Jonathan Bernier. On June 23, 2014, Rob Blake, the @LAKings' franchise leader in goals by a defenseman, was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame. On June 23, 2017, the @LAKings selected Gabriel Vilardi 11th overall at the NHL Draft.
