This Date in LA Kings History: June 12th

From their humble beginning as one of the NHL’s Second Six expansion teams in 1967, through winning two Stanley Cups in three years and becoming a league powerhouse in 2012-14, the LA Kings have experienced a rich hockey history over the past 50-plus years. Below are some key franchise moments that occurred on this date.

On June 12, 1969, the @LAKings selected Butch Goring 51st overall in the Amateur Draft. @91Butch scored 275 goals and 659 points in 736 games with the #LAKings, and became the first player in NHL history to win the Masterton and Lady Byng trophies in the same season.#GoKingsGo pic.twitter.com/eVrZ6ouw7L

On June 12, 1976, the @LAKings acquired Glenn Goldup and a third round pick from the Montreal Canadiens for a 1977 third round pick and a first round pick in 1978 (Danny Geoffrion). On June 12, 2001, @LAKings General Manager Dave Taylor was named Executive of the Year by The Hockey News. In 2000-01, Taylor added Mathieu Schneider, Felix Potvin, Adam Deadmarsh and Aaron Miller, and managed the #LAKings to an upset win over Detroit in the playoffs.#GoKingsGo pic.twitter.com/EpZ2OTzWRw

After 44 seasons, the @LAKings were crowned Stanley Cup champions when they defeated the Devils 6-1 in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final.
