This Date in LA Kings History: April 1st

From their humble beginning as one of the NHL’s Second Six expansion teams in 1967, through winning two Stanley Cups in three years and becoming a league powerhouse in 2012-14, the LA Kings have experienced a rich hockey history over the past 50-plus years. Below are some key franchise moments that occurred on this date. 

On April 1, 1972, Butch Goring scored his first career hat trick in a 9-4 win against the California Golden Seals. @LAKings teammates Serge Bernier (center) scored two goals and three points, and Ralph Backstrom (right) scored his 23rd goal of the season.#LAKings #GoKingsGo pic.twitter.com/mrRE7SYf00

On April 1, 1989, Bernie Nicholls set an @LAKings' record when he scored his 70th goal of the season in a 6-4 win against the Canucks. On April 1, 2013, the @LAKings acquired Robyn Regehr from the Buffalo Sabres for second round draft picks in 2014 and 2015. In three seasons with the #LAKings, Regehr scored 29 points and delivered 449 hits in 158 games, and won a Stanley Cup ring in 2014.#GoKingsGo pic.twitter.com/ral0YBXfOk
