LA Kings Prospect Tracker, Week Ending April 18, 2021

April 19, 2021 By Nick Lopez

It’s time to take a lap around the globe and check in on the LA Kings prospects playing in various leagues. The following reports are for games played through end of day Sunday, April 18th.

AHL Ontario Reign

Historically we do not include AHL players on this list, but due to the high volume of prospects playing for the Ontario Reign this season, we will highlight select players each week.

The Reign played three games this week. They dropped two games to the Gulls, the first being 7-4 and the second being a 2-1 OT loss. Their final game was a 1-0 loss to the Condors.

Lias Andersson, Center (7th overall in 2017)

2021 stats: 5 goals, 9 assists, even plus/minus, 6 PIM in 13 games played

Andersson finally picked up an even-strength tally, sending a feed from Samuel Fagemo bar down against the Gulls netminder. He would also pick up a secondary assist later in the game. His points-per-game is currently 1.08.

Quinton Byfield, Center (2nd overall in 2020)

2021 stats: 7 goals, 12 assists, minus-11, 22 PIM in 28 games played

Byfield was able to pick up a secondary assist on Arthur Kaliyev’s only goal of the week. The two remain tied for the Reign scoring lead.

Samuel Fagemo, Left/Right Wing (50th overall in 2019)

2021 stats: 7 goals, 6 assists, minus-5, 13 PIM in 22 games played

Fagemo picked up an assist in his first game back from injury, one tapping a Jacob Moverare pass over to Andersson in the slot who would wrist it in for an all Swedish connection.

Arthur Kaliyev, Right Wing (33rd overall in 2020)

2021 stats: 8 goals, 11 assists, minus-1, 16 PIM in 30 games played

Kaliyev regained the Reign goal-scoring lead after sneaking in backdoor for his eighth of the season.

Rasmus Kupari, Center (20th overall in 2018)

2021 stats: 5 goals, 13 assists, minus-1, 18 PIM in 25 games

Kupari was held pointless this week.

Akil Thomas, Center/Right Wing (51st overall in 2018)

2021 stats: 7 goals, 8 assists, minus-9, 12 PIM in 30 games played

Thomas picked up an assist after he sent a saucer pass over two defender’s sticks to find a rushing Markus Phillips for a goal.

One other fun pregame note:

When the Reign were short on D in a recent game, Akil Thomas skated one shift there… and nearly scored!

Then, I heard he practiced as a D yesterday also.

Strand is back tonight, so doubt 14 sees time on the blueline. But it's coming some day.

Alex Turcotte, Center/ Left Wing (5th overall in 2019)

2021 stats: 2 goals, 11 assists, minus-3, 16 PIM in 23 games played

Turcotte had an assist in the first game against the Gulls but took a rough slide into the boards that would sideline him for the second game. He would return for the game against Bakersfield.

Wrobo complimenting the training staff for helping to get Turcotte ready for today, after they had originally planned on being cautious with him this week.

He also mentioned that Turcotte wanted to play tonight. Wanted to prove to mgmt and teammates that he's all in.

Sean Durzi, RH Defenseman (52nd overall in 2018)

Durzi had no points this week but did have a rather enjoyable hit on Condor player Devin Brosseau.

Markus Phillips, LH Defenseman (118th overall in 2017)

2021 stats: 2 goals, 2 assists, minus-4, 6 PIM in 21 games played

Martin Chromiak, Slovak Extraliga-HK Dukla Trencin, Left Wing (128th overall in 2020)

2021 stats: 7 goals, 12 assists, plus-6, 0 PIM in 32 games played

Chromiak has been impressive in the exhibition games he has played in for Slovakia’s U20 team. Down 1-0 against the Czech’s U20 team, Chromiak became the latest Kings Prospect to score using “The Michigan”, guiding the puck into the top right corner of the net lacrosse style to tie the game. He would also score in the shootout.

Additional note that didn't make it into this week's article…

LA Kings prospect @MatoChromiak8 will play for Team Slovakia U20 this weekend vs. Czech Republic.

Normally, there'd be a 4-5 Nation Tourney as warmup for WJC. Without it this yr, teams are playing exhibition games. https://t.co/ssYmiy02rn
