It’s time to take a lap around the globe and check in on LA Kings prospects playing in various leagues. The following reports are for games played through end of day Sunday, March 28, 2021:
AHL Ontario Reign
Historically we do not include AHL players on this list, but due to the high volume of prospects playing for the Ontario Reign this season, we will highlight select players each week.
Over the past seven days, the Reign incurred a 5-3 loss on Wednesday to the San Diego Gulls, yet rebounded with a 3-2 OT win against Tucson and a 3-1 victory over Bakersfield.
Lias Andersson, Center (7th overall in 2017)
2021 season: 3 goals, 6 assists, plus-1, 0 PIM in 8 games played
Andersson continued his dominant AHL play this week, netting two goals- including his second shorthanded tuck of the season, where he made a power drive from the right boards to move in on the Tucson goaltender and put the puck in.

Quinton Byfield, Center (2nd overall in 2019)
2021 season: 6 goals, 10 assists, minus-12, 14 PIM in 21 games played
As the youngest skater in the AHL, Byfield leads the Reign with 16 points and is third overall in rookie scoring. He picked up a goal against the Gulls by using his size and a toe drag to escape coverage on the boards and move into the slot for a short-side snipe. Against the Roadrunners, his rush up the ice directly led to Kale Clague’s game-winning goal, giving him his second assist of the night. He did not play against Bakersfield.

Arthur Kaliyev, Right Wing (33rd overall in 2019)
2021 season: 7 goals, 7 assists, plus-1, 10 PIM in 22 games played
Kaliyev had a relatively quiet week in the stats department, recording no points.
Rasmus Kupari, Center (20th overall in 2018)
2021 season: 3 goals, 12 assists, plus-2, 10 PIM in 17 games played
Kupari picked up an assist on Turcotte’s empty-net goal against Bakersfield.
Akil Thomas, Center/Right Wing (51st overall in 2018)
2021 season: 6 goals, 7 assists, minus-7, 8 PIM in 22 games played
Thomas added two assists to his stat line this week. He was the tack in his lines tick-tack-toe goal that would stand as the game-winner against the Condors.

Alex Turcotte, Center/Left Wing (5th overall in 2019)
2021 season: 2 goals, 8 assists, minus-1, 6 PIM in 16 games played
Turcotte continues to produce coming off his injury, putting up a goal and two assists this week. Against the Condors, Turcotte took a pass in front of the net and backhanded it through the legs of a defender to connect with Andersson for the opening goal of the game. Later, he added an empty netter.

Kale Clague, LH Defenseman (51st overall in 2016)
2021 season: 1 goal, 4 assists, minus-7, 8 PIM in 17 games played
Clague put an end to the Roadrunners with his goal in overtime, where he was able to lose coverage and sneak into the slot to receive a pass from behind the net for a wrist shot that beat the goalie.

Sean Durzi, RH Defenseman (52nd overall in 2018)
2021 season: 3 goals, 9 assists, plus-2, 16 PIM in 22 games played
Durzi continues to statistically lead all Reign defensemen, adding a goal this week. He moved up from the blueline to the high slot where he faked a slapshot before changing the angle by pulling the puck back and then firing, beating the Roadrunner goalie bar down.
Durzi ties the game with his 3rd goal of the season.

Markus Phillips, LH Defenseman (118th overall in 2017)
2021 season: 0 goals, 1 assist, minus-5, 0 PIM in 13 games played
Phillips picked up his first point of the season, sending the puck up the boards on the PK for Andersson to grab for a short-handed goal.
Matt Villalta, Goalie (72 overall in 2017)
2021 season: 3 wins, 3.32 GAA, .880 SAV% in 9 games played
Villalta returned from a stint on the NHL taxi squad, starting against the Condors and stopping 24 of 25 shots.
Reign players not tracked this week: Aiden Dudas, Samuel Fagemo, Johan Södergan, Tyler Madden, Daniel Brickley, Cole Hults, Jacob Moverare, Austin Strand and Jacob Ingham.
EUROPE
Martin Chromiak, Slovak Extraliga-HK Dukla Trencin, Left Wing (128th overall in 2020)
2021 season: 7 goals, 12 assists, plus-6, 0 PIM in 32 games played
Chromiak did not play this week. However, he was named to Extraliga’s Regular Season U21 All-Star Team.

Aatu Jamsen, U20 SM-sarja-Pelicans U20, Right Wing (190th overall in 2020)
2021 season: 18 goals, 38 assists, plus-23, 40 PIM in 36 games
The Pelicans were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the playoffs. Jämsen did not play in any of the games, yet he was named to the league’s Second All-Star Team.

Mestis-TUTO Hockey: 3 goals, 4 assists, plus-1, 4 PIM in 5 games played
Simontaival did not play this week.
Helge Grans, SHL-Malmö Redhawks, RH Defenseman (35th overall in 2020)
2021 season: 3 goals, 8 assists, minus-18, 0 PIM in 40 games played
Grans played in three out of four Malmo games this week. Overall, he was a minus-2, yet did record 19:03 of ice time against Skelleftea.
Kim Nousiainen, Liiga-KalPa, LH Defenseman (119th overall in 2019)
2021 season: 8 goals, 16 assists, plus-15, 10 PIM in 48 games played
KalPa played JYP twice this week winning both games 4-1. The young Finn led his team with 23:14 of ice time in the first game and had two assists in the second game, one of them being a primary assist on the opening goal.

2021 season:

2021 season: 11 goals, 12 assists, minus-22, 22 PIM in 53 games played
Dergachyov is enjoying his off-season as his team missed out on the playoffs.
Bulat Shafigullin, KHL-Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk, Forward (82nd overall in 2018)
2021 season: 7 goals, 7 assists, minus-23, 41 PIM in 56 games played
Bulat’s season is over as his team missed the playoffs.
NCAA College Hockey
David Hrenak, St. Cloud State, Goalie (144th overall in 2018)
2021 season: 2.50 GAA, .910 SV% in 25 games played
David Hrenak backstopped the Huskies through the NCAA Regionals, hammering Boston University 6-2 and downing Boston College 4-1. He was named MVP of the Northwest Regionals, stopping 60 of 63 shots and posting a .952 SV%. Hrenak and the Huskies have a date with the Minnesota State Mavericks in the first round of the NCAA Frozen Four Tournament on April 8th.

Brock Faber, Univ. of Minnesota, RH Defenseman (45th overall in 2020)
2021 season: 1 goal, 11 assists, plus-17, 14 PIM in 27 games played
Brock Faber had FIVE assists in the 7-2 bludgeoning of the Omaha Mavericks, tying an NCAA record for points in a single tournament game. His rush up the boards and wrap-around pass would be vital in scoring the opening goal of the game. Sadly, that game would be the only game the Gophers would win in the NCAA West Regionals, as they were knocked out in a 4-0 loss to the Minnesota State Mavericks. Faber would be named to the All-West Region Tournament Team, being the only player named that didn’t play for Minnesota State.

Meehan will return to UML for his sophomore season.
USHL
Alex Laferriere, Des Moines Buccaneers, Right Wing (83rd overall in 2020)
2021 season: 20 goals, 17 assists, plus-6, 33 PIM in 38 games played
Laferriere did not play this week, as all three Bucs games were postponed.
Braden Doyle, Dubuque Fighting Saints, LH Defenseman (157th overall in 2019)
2021 season: 5 goals, 16 assists, plus-1, 16 PIM in 40 games played
Doyle had a goal in the 10-2 domination of the USNDP. In the following game against Waterloo, he had an assist.

Lukas Parik, Dubuque Fighting Saints, Goalie (87th overall in 2019)
2021 season: 3.18 GAA, .866 SV% in 17 games played
Parik picked up two wins this week, stopping 20 of 22 shots in the 10-2 win over USNDP and 22 of 24 shots against Waterloo.
QMJHL
Jordan Spence, Val-dOr Foreurs, RH Defenseman (95th overall in 2019)
2021 season:
Moncton Wildcats: 5 goals, 11 assists, minus-4, 14 PIM in 13 games played.
Foreurs: 5 goals, 15 assists, plus-12, 0 PIM in 17 games played.
Spence played in three games for the Foreurs this week, all wins. Against Rouyn-Noranda, he joined the rush and put himself into the slot where he received a pass and then roofed it for a 3-0 Foreur lead. Then, he would have two assists in a 5-1 win over the Remparts, where he was named First Star of the Game.
