Although the spotlights are clearly shining on AHL Ontario when it comes to the top LA Kings prospects — and rightfully so, that roster is packed with more talent than anytime in team history — it’s still worth noting the organization does have other prospects playing in various leagues. Three of those young players can be seen on TV Friday and Saturday.
Defenseman Brock Faber and his No. 5 ranked University of Minnesota teammates will be facing Notre Dame this weekend. For the Gophers, they’re looking to get healthy after previously being ranked No. 1 in the nation, but are coming off of back-to-back losses to Tony Granato’s Wisconsin Badgers last weekend, where they were outscored 12-2. Perhaps making matters worse, they’ll be traveling to face an Irish team that beat them 2-1 and 3-2 on home ice a few weeks ago.
Faber, selected by the Kings in the second round of the 2020 Draft, burst onto the college scene earlier this year and is now playing on Minnesota’s top D pairing as a freshman. He also had a spectacular World Junior tournament, winning a gold medal with Team USA and earning the highest grade among all nine Kings prospects in the tournament.
To take Faber 45th overall, the Kings packaged Vancouver’s second round pick (which they acquired in the Tyler Toffoli trade) with one of their own fourth round picks – moving up six spots to take the 18-year-old defender. He also appeared on Kings Of The Podcast in November (listen here).
Minnesota vs Notre Dame will be televised as follows:
Friday, February 12 at 4:30 pm PST on NBC Sports Network (DirecTV 220, DISH 159)
Saturday, February 13 at 2:30 pm PST on SNY Network (DirecTV 239)
Another pair of Kings prospects will also be on TV this weekend, as part of UMass Lowell taking on No. 1 ranked Boston College. UML features forward Andre Lee and defenseman Ben Meehan.
The Kings duo will be working to get their River Hawk team back into the Top 20 college rankings. After starting the season ranked No. 11 — and in a season ravaged with games being cancelled/rescheduled over the past two months — they’ve slowly fallen outside the Top 20. UML was riding a four game losing streak, however Lee put an end to that with OT goal on Tuesday vs. UConn.

Lee was a guest on Kings Of The Podcast in November. That show received universal praise, as Lee and fellow college prospect David Hrenak told some great stories. It’s linked below for your reference.
