This Date in LA Kings History: February 28th and 29th

From their humble beginning as one of the NHL’s Second Six expansion teams in 1967, through winning two Stanley Cups in three years and becoming a league powerhouse in 2012-14, the LA Kings have experienced a rich hockey history over the past 50-plus years. Below are some key franchise moments that occurred on this date.

On February 28, 1970, the @LAKings reacquired Real Lemieux, and also acquired Juha Widing, from the New York Rangers for Ted Irvine. Lemieux scored 46 goals and 143 points in 382 games, and Widing scored 131 goals and 342 points in 502 games with the #LAKings.#GoKingsGo pic.twitter.com/QyXas9xB9G

On February 28, 1990, the @LAKings and Oilers set an NHL record when they combined for 86 penalties at the Great Western Forum. On February 28, 2011, the @LAKings acquired Dustin Penner from Edmonton for Colten Teubert, a first round pick, and a third round pick. On February 28, 2016, the @LAKings acquired Kris Versteeg from the Carolina Hurricanes for Valentin Zykov and a conditional draft pick. On February 29, 2016, the @LAKings acquired Brett Sutter from Minnesota for Scott Sabourin.
