After a nearly one week delay to their original plans, the Ontario Reign officially kicked off their 2021 preseason on Friday afternoon, picking up a 3-2 shootout win – but not before losing top prospect Quinton Byfield early in the second period.
Following the game, coach John Wroblewski said Byfield was a “little nicked up” with a lower body injury, classifying it as “nothing serious.” While the status of Byfield remains day-to-day, from what we’ve gathered, he is expected to be out about 7-10 days.
On Sunday, the Reign are scheduled to play the first of back-to-back exhibition games at 1pm vs. the Roadrunners, with an immediate rematch set for Monday afternoon.
Ontario Reign Projected Lineup for Sunday, Jan. 24
Tyler Madden – Rasmus Kupari – Arthur Kaliyev
Blaine Byron – Akil Thomas – Mikey Eyssimont
Jack Poehling – Aidan Dudas – Nick Halloran
Brett Sutter – Drake Rymsha – Jacob Doty
Defensive pairings are still being worked out.
Tobias Björnfot – Austin Strand
Daniel Brickley – Sean Durzi
Jacob Moverare – Markus Phillips
JF Berube is expected to return in net and play the full game. Jacob Ingham will serve as backup.
