January 16 – LA Kings Projected Lines and D Pairings for Game 2

January 16, 2021 By John Hoven

In advance of Game 2 this season, a rematch with the Minnesota Wild, LA Kings coach Todd McLellan elected to have an optional gameday skate. However, he did have a conference call with the media, where he indicated the following:

LA Kings expected lineup for Game 2

Iafallo – Kopitar – Brown
Athanasiou – Lizotte – Carter
Kempe – Vilardi – Wagner
Moore – Amadio – Luff

Maatta – Doughty
Anderson – Roy
MacDermid – Walker

Quick
Petersen

McLellan added that he’ll make final decisions later today depending on how the returning players feel after being off the ice for a week. He also gave the caveat there could be additional changes, based on any “bumps and bruises” that are uncovered after the skate. All players skated today with the exception of Dustin Brown, Jeff Carter and Drew Doughty.

Other roster news…

Hearing Austin Strand will likely play for AHL Ontario Reign today. More soon.

Expexting Mark Alt to be assigned to Kings taxi squad.

Assuming LA rotates Villalta / Ingham on taxi short term. Berube is on AHL-only deal at the moment, can't be 3rd goalie.

— John Hoven | The Mayor (@mayorNHL) January 16, 2021

— Goaltender Troy Grosenick was claimed on waivers by the Edmonton Oilers. Mark Alt cleared waivers and will now be assigned to the taxi squad.

— Jacob Ingham is expected to serve as today’s taxi squad goalie. (More on taxi squad rules and the Kings overall plans here.)

— Defenseman Tobias Bjornfot has also been moved from LA’s NHL roster to the taxi squad. He will not require waivers this season, so the Kings are free to move him between the NHL, AHL, and taxi squad whenever they see fit.

— Meanwhile, forwards Jaret Anderson-Dolan and Lias Andersson remain on the taxi squad.
