World Juniors Twitter Breakdown: Canada vs Germany 12/26

December 26, 2020 By MayorsManor Staff

Canada starts it’s quest for gold facing a short handed Germany squad due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Next up at 3pm PST on NHL Network – Canada v Germany… here's the lineups: pic.twitter.com/p81C62mtWq

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ goal 🚨#gohabsgo Kaidan Guhle snipes one short side
1-0 πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

— WJC Lyfe (@WJCLyfe) December 26, 2020

πŸš¨πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦Less than 2 minutes into the first @HC_WJC is one the board! A great shift give Kaiden Guhle a perfect opportunity to put Canada on the board. #WorldJuniors@CanadiensMTL pic.twitter.com/nMFKVVJdRF

πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈπŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ @byfield55 called for crosschecking. On to the penalty kill they go. #WorldJuniors

— IIHF (@IIHFHockey) December 26, 2020

πŸš¨πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ @DawsonMercer14 comes in with a wrap-around and makes it 2-0 for @HC_WJC

— IIHF (@IIHFHockey) December 26, 2020

#WJC: Another gaffe from Tiefensee as he loses his footing on a simple dump-in and Dawson Mercer (NJD 1st/2020) stuffs home a short-handed goal. Canada up 2-0 over Germany in the 1st pic.twitter.com/shmuYjAqg7

— Steve Kournianos (@TheDraftAnalyst) December 26, 2020

Dawson Mercer scores after stripping Tiefensee off the puck behind the net. Here's a replay. #WorldJuniors pic.twitter.com/vk3bILuX89

— Steven Ellis (@StevenEllisTHN) December 26, 2020

Canada's Braden Schneider (NYR) tossed from the game for check to the head. Canada leading Germany 2-0. IIHF will probably take a longer look at the hit, but officials got the call right on the ice.

— Chris Peters (@chrismpeters) December 26, 2020

Braden Schneider got 5+ game misconduct for getting Jan-Luca Schumacher in the head. #WorldJuniors pic.twitter.com/guSN51Zz7e

πŸš¨πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦And just like that, 1:08 later, @HC_WJC
fires back and makes it 3-1. #WorldJuniors

πŸš¨πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ ?
Buzzer beater, or too late? @HC_WJC waits in anticipation to find out if their 4th goal will count. #WorldJuniors

It's good! 0.2 seconds put on the clock for the period. #WorldJuniors https://t.co/hG7g5rlEuF pic.twitter.com/b5K9USNq6S

— IIHF (@IIHFHockey) December 26, 2020

Germany, welcome to the World Juniors. Sorry, nine of your players can't play. Also, we're gonna need you guys to start the tournament with back-to-backs against Finland and Canada. By the way, we're going to count goals after the buzzer. Would you like to proceed?

— Chris Peters (@chrismpeters) December 26, 2020

Interesting explanation from Gord Miller about the Peyton Krebs goal. Said the IIHF's feed and TSN's feed for the clock were different – but the belief is that the IIHF's feed was delayed by 0.2 seconds, which means the goal wouldn't have counted. #WorldJuniors

STATS CHECK #WorldJuniors

After the first period…

Quinton Byfield

0 points

2 PIM
3-for-4 in faceoffs (75%)

— John Hoven | The Mayor (@mayorNHL) December 27, 2020

Moving to the second period Team Germany put a new goaltender in net.  Team Canada decided to score on him too.

New goalie for Germany. Same result. Dawson Mercer enters, takes a shot, rebound pops to the high slot, and Mercer (NJD) tracks it to the middle of the ice to get it back and score a few seconds after his entry.

— Scott Wheeler (@scottcwheeler) December 27, 2020

Dawson Mercer is such a chameleon. He brings whatever you need.

#WJC: C Alex Newhook (COL 1st/2019) walks in and scores to make it 7-1 Canada over Germany. Going how we expected it. Remember that goal differential could be a SF-round tiebreaker so no reason for Canada to not run up the score. pic.twitter.com/XuBMVAopYJ

Well that ended the second period.  Only one period to go before this game mercifully ends.
