FAN VOTE: Conference Finals Set in Reverse Retro Cup

December 4, 2020 By John Hoven

Things are heating up in the race to determine a winner in the Reverse Retro Cup. After more than 1,200 total votes were cast, our readers have selected four jerseys will square off in the Eastern and Western Conference Finals.

Once again, most of the matchups in Round 2 were won by a significant margin, with the closest race coming in the Montreal-Florida series. While the Panthers were able to secure roughly 40% of the votes, it was the Canadiens who are moving on in the tournament.

Also on the Eastern side of the ladder, Washington — who snuck out of Round 1 by less than 10 votes to take out the Buffalo Sabres — were no match for Carolina this time around. Using their Hartford Whalers motif, it was the Hurricanes cruising to victory over the Capitals.

Out West, both the Kings and Avalanche cruised to victories, as the Arizona Coyotes and Minnesota Wild captured less than 100 votes total in their losing efforts.

So now the Conference Finals are set. And things played out in the rare ‘perfect’ way, with all of the original top four seeds surviving until this point.

Eastern Conference Final
1. Carolina Hurricanes vs 2. Montreal Canadiens

Western Conference Final
1. Colorado Avalanche vs 2. Los Angeles Kings

Will the Reverse Retro Cup be a reprise of the 1993 Stanley Cup Final? Will it be an all Patrick Roy affair? Can the Whalers do something they were only able to do while playing as the New England Whalers in the WHA, make it to the Championship round? Can Carolina and Colorado extend their run one round, and thus guarantee the Reverse Retro Cup is awarded to a jersey that has nothing to do with a current NHL team? There are a myriad of interesting possibilities here.

Once again, to assist you with voting, each Reverse Retro jersey matchup is featured in full below:

EASTERN CONFERENCE Final

Carolina Hurricanes
Montreal Canadiens

…
WESTERN CONFERENCE FINAL
…
Colorado Avalanche
LA Kings

Voting for the Conference Finals will remain open until 9am PST on Wednesday, December 9.
