With a little less than 90 days until the Kings and Avalanche square off outdoors at Falcon Stadium in Colorado, we remain on high alert to see what the visiting team will be wearing. In a previous article, we laid out all the information we had at the time – including multiple sources suggesting there would be some purple involved in LA’s 2020 Stadium Series sweater and the possibility of an ‘LA’ being prominently featured as the crest (especially considering the organization has moved toward being branded as LA, not Los Angeles).
More recently, when the navy blue and burgundy Avs jersey was leaked, we immediately shared it with one of our sources inside the Kings front office. Our first comment in that conversation pointed out that we would now assume the Kings can’t be going with a purple jersey, as that mix of colors would clash on the ice. ‘Gold would look good against that jersey,’ was one of the replies.

We didn’t buy the idea of LA using a gold jersey for more than a few seconds. Crafty, though; they’re always looking to throw us off the scent. And why not – we successfully previewed the Kings Stadium Series jerseys (used both in 2014 and 2015), their 50th anniversary jersey, the AHL Ontario Reign jersey, and so on. Thus, we’ve been on a mission of late to get the scoop on the 2020 Stadium Series jersey before it is officially released next month.
Fortunately, a different source provided us some intel today and we may be on to something here.
Although this jersey doesn’t feature any purple – as we were repeatedly told previously – maybe that was just information designed to confuse us or send us down the wrong path.
Special thanks to Justin Cox, our longtime artist, for quickly putting together this mockup as soon as we received what could turn out to be a super-hot tip.
FWIW – based on our intel, the Kings jersey depicted below is definitely in production. Is it for the Stadium Series game being played at the Air Force Academy in February? We should know soon enough.
