From all indications, our Kings of Kings tournament is proving to be wildly successful and something that’s connecting with fans across all social media platforms. However, after a few early round blowouts in the 32-player event, things have really started to tighten up heading into the Elite 8. We now have only four matchups remaining to determine which player is worthy of earning the ultimate crown.
Just like last round, even though thousands of votes were cast across Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, several of the matchups were close – and, once again, we had a near tie between two guys.
ROUND 2 RESULTS
Wayne Gretzky 86% def. Ziggy Pallfy 14%
Jonathan Quick 89% def. Bernie Nicholls 11%
Luc Robitaille 90% def. Mattias Norstrom 10%
Rob Blake 54% def. Rogie Vachon 46%
Marcel Dionne 78% def. Kelly Hrudey 22%
Dustin Brown 88% def. Dave Taylor 12%
Drew Doughty 82% def. Kyle Clifford 18%
Anze Kopitar 94% def. Butch Goring 6%
How close was Blake v Vachon? In the early going, Vachon actually was ahead. But the midpoint of the voting window it was a dead heat and pretty much stayed that way right up until the very end when Blake pulled away to win.
Even with some wide margins of victory in some of the other matchups, fans still seem to be agonizing over the tough decisions at times.
Damn. Brown v. Taylor & Vachon v. Blake will be tough.

Damn you John. I may revolt. This was fun and a good idea… until now.

With all of that completed, it’s on to Round 3.
As noted in the original announcement, the rules for the tournament are pretty straight forward. Each morning leading up to Game 1 of the regular season, a new matchup will be featured in a poll across all MayorsManor social media accounts, giving fans the opportunity to vote for their choice of player to advance in the tournament and ultimately determine who is truly worthy of wearing the crown and claiming the King of Kings title. So, look over the bracket and get ready to start voting!
