September 9, 2018 By John Hoven

Game 1 of the 2018 Vegas Rookie Faceoff – a tournament featuring top prospects and draft picks from six different NHL clubs – didn’t exactly go as planned for the Los Angeles Kings. An opening goal, scored by Jaret Anderson-Dolan, started them out on the right foot. However, after a fairly even game through about 30 minutes, the game really got away from them in the third period. When all was said and done, the Anaheim Ducks skated off with an 8-3 victory.

Through first 12 minutes of play, no score. Shots are even at nine each. Several crunching hits, including Moverare (OHL) and Mahura (WHL) exchanging body checks.

Not sure what @moveraree had for lunch, but he continues to dish out thunderous hits. Nearly put a Duck through the boards just now.

The goals are nice, but Olle Eriksson Ek is out here putting on a CLINIC!@ekinator with ANOTHER strong stop to keep the Kings at just one goal. pic.twitter.com/trCB9xIn74

Villalta just ROBBED the Ducks of a goal, glove save reaching back. Some scouts next to me even blurted out WOW!

Following the game, we posted full notes and quotes here. Heads up – even if you’re not looking for post-game reaction, that notebook is worth checking out, as it details the Kings likely plans for their opening night roster, including up-to-the-minute news on Gabe Vilardi, Sheldon Rempal, Adrian Kempe, and others.

As for the tournament in Vegas, per our pre-season tradition, we brought along a photographer to take in all the action. Below are images captured by Daniel Stopani for MayorsManor. The collection features some of the LA Kings top prospects and recent draft picks – including: Jaret Anderson-Dolan, Mikey Eyssimont, Austin Wagner, Akil Thomas, Spencer Watson, Kale Clague, Austin Strand, Jacob Moverare, Matt Villalta, and more.
