Building on our previous story about a trio of fun items the Kings are planning for next season, their 50th year in the NHL – including a brand new jersey and hosting the NHL All Star Game – we can now share a few more details.
With a new Las Vegas expansion team likely beginning play in October 2017, the next Frozen Fury is expected to be the final year the team will host their traditional preseason affair in Sin City. While still not announced publicly, we’ve been led to believe the idea of it being a two-game affair at the brand new T-Mobile Arena (an AEG property) is all but locked up. As we understand it, game one is scheduled for Friday, October 7th vs. the Dallas Stars, followed by a game against the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday, October 8th.
This would mark only the third time in the nearly 20-year history of the event where the Kings have doubled down at Frozen Fury, having split a pair of contests with the Avs in 1998, and then hosting the Rangers and Avalanche in 2013 (note: photo galleries from those two games can be viewed here (Game 1) and here).
Additionally, the Kings will begin their 2016-17 preseason activity with a game at Citizen’s Business Bank Arena, home of their AHL affiliate, the Ontario Reign.
#LAKings have announced their first preseason game of the 2016-17 season… Will be an intrasquad game at CBB Arena in Ontario on 9/25
