It all comes down to this. Beginning Saturday night in Manchester, the 2015 Calder Cup will kick off, with the host Monarchs taking on the Utica Comets. Their parent clubs, the Los Angeles Kings and Vancouver Canucks, have had plenty of playoff battles; now these two teams will meet for the first time this season. To help us preview the best-of-seven championship series, L.A.’s longtime Director of Scouting Mark Yannetti joins us to talk about Jordan Weal, Derek Forbort, Colin Miller, Justin Auger, and the organization’s overall development process. Plus, Andy Tonge, our Monarchs correspondent, kicks off the podcast with a myriad of comments on Adrian Kempe, Nick Shore, Michael Mersch, Nic Dowd, J.F. Berube, and so much more.

Great interview. Fascinating to hear Yannetti call Weal one of the two best players in the AHL. Makes me much more optimistic about his filling a top 6 role. Also his saying there are at least 3 and up to 5 (forward) slots open on the big club gives insight to the organization’s thinking as well. Richards, Stoll, AA (who may stay, but have to compete to earn it) are the obvious open spots. Raises the question…who are the other two?
