During Thursday night’s Kings at Canucks contest, Los Angeles GM Dean Lombardi offered updates on Mike Richards (including the real possibility of his return to the NHL), Jonathan Quick’s heavy workload, mentioned the absence of Slava Voynov, the challenges his team has faced this season compared to their 2012 Stanley Cup defense, and many other topics.
Among the highlights were:
– “When we were in Florida and blew a lead in the third period, and didn’t even get a point, I think that’s probably when we hit bottom. Since then, we’ve started to look a little more like ourselves.”
– “The core of this team is still very young. What they’re facing this year is a very different challenge [than] the first Cup… We’ve made some progress, but it’s a very different challenge to try and stay on top versus when we were trying to get there.”
– “Goaltenders are no different than running a pitching staff. You have to be careful of not overworking your ace.”
– “The Mike Richards thing was very disappointing.”
– “Everybody knows, when there are big games or critical moments, [Richards] is always there. We just have to get him up to where that capacity to be able to do that is in the tank. There is very much a possibility he could be back.”
