When you are dealing with sources and trying to piece together a story – regardless of the topic at hand; sports related or otherwise – occasionally, it takes time for the facts to come into focus. For those following our stories on the jerseys created for the Kings-Sharks outdoor game next year, you may remember us mentioning that our original tidbit on the San Jose Stadium Series sweater was that they were going all teal. Later, when it was discovered they would be using the same two-tone approach as L.A., we dismissed that nugget as the type of cryptic tidbits you often receive when searching for details – one that is bathed in a sort of half-truth.
Then, after seeing the Sharks tweet this photo of the real jerseys, it makes a little more sense:
…the back of the jersey is, in fact, all teal. Reebok executives apparently said they opted for a solid back to make jersey numbers visible from several hundred feet away (i.e. inside a stadium).
With that in mind, our artist, Justin Cox, went back in and updated the comps created for the Kings jersey. For comparison purposes, we’ve included both, the original version and a possible preview of what a solid-colored backside would look like. There are also a few other subtle updates in the mock up, such as the collar and logo placement on the pants.

The official unveiling will take place at a special season ticket holder event at the new Team LA Store inside Staples Center tomorrow afternoon.
Like last year, the Kings will also wear their Stadium Series jersey during their final regular season home game. It was an idea the Ducks passed on last season, opting to only wear their all-orange sweater at Dodger Stadium. Meanwhile, San Jose will suit up in their new look twice more. Beyond the game at Levi’s Stadium, the Sharks plan to wear their outdoor jersey at home on Feb. 28 vs. Ottawa and March 14 against Chicago.
