Puck Probability: Odds for Flames at Kings, December 22

December 22, 2014 By John Hoven

Smid Backlund Flames NHLBoth the Calgary Flames and Los Angeles Kings will be looking to pick up a win before the NHL holiday break. Currently fighting for a wild card spot in the Western Conference standings, the two clubs could be headed in different directions in the weeks to come. Calgary has been on a deep slide, while LA has found their offensive touch again of late.

What might happen tonight? We’ve brought in Pat Steinberg, radio host of the Flames games in Calgary, to help us lay some odds on the game. Below are a handful of things each of us think could unfold once the puck drops…

Odds by MayorsManor:

2:1 – Anze Kopitar pots a goal to celebrate being named the NHL’s first star of the week.

3:1 – Dean Lombardi, Brian Burke, and former Dodgers GM Ned Colletti will be shown sitting together. (Explained here)

6:1 – Kings chase Jonas Hiller before 20 minutes.

7:1 – The game goes to overtime.

20:1 – Patrick O’Neal wears an “ugly sweater” during the broadcast.

200:1 – Darryl Sutter wears an “ugly sweater” behind the bench.

Odds by Pat Steinberg:

1:2 – The LA radio and TV broadcast teams will marvel multiple times at the skill and creativity of Flames forward Johnny Gaudreau.

1:1 – Flames Head Coach Bob Hartley will say something witty and make local and traveling reporters alike chuckle.

10:1 – The Flames will score more than 3 goals, something they’ve done just once in their current eight losing streak.

100:1 – Calgary will score game winning goals within the final 30 seconds of the third period like they did in their two visits to Staples Center last year.

4500:1 – The Flames will score on themselves on an opposing delayed penalty, as they did Saturday night in the first period of their game against Vancouver.
