Back in June, when we first leaked word that the Kings and Sharks would be playing an outdoor game in 2015, one of the first questions we received was – “What jerseys will they be wearing?” Eventually, we reported that, yes, indeed the Kings would be getting a special sweater for the February date vs. their Northern California rival.
Many of you have already skipped ahead to the picture below. For those of you who actually read the articles though (first off, thanks) – and who might enjoy the nuances of a how a story comes together – we’ll share a little narrative here. The first bit of news we were given said the Kings would wear a white jersey, white pants, and white gloves. While trying to confirm that tip, we were also led down the path of believing the team would not be creating a new logo – nor, was the “Burger King” jersey being resurrected. Thinking that it would made logical sense to base a jersey on a template similar to the Stadium Series jerseys last season, and seeing it as a perfect opportunity to re-use the chrome crown from the Dodger Stadium game, we came up with the following rendition via some help from artist Justin Cox…
Undeterred by the fact we weren’t able to get absolute confirmation regarding how close the above design was (compared to what will actually be used), we kept shaking trees and looking for info. Earlier today, everything came together. In turns out, the above all-white / crown jersey was not the look. In fact, it wasn’t even really close. The NHL and the Kings are going totally outside the box on this one. And we now have what we believe will be the look of the jersey…
A few additional notes to pass along:
– Barring a last minute change, the white pants are staying. However, the use of white gloves may or may not end up happening.
– The official unveiling will take place at a special season ticket holder event to be held at the new Team LA Store inside Staples Center on Tuesday, Dec. 16. Fans in attendance will be able to purchase the jersey, at a discounted price, that same evening.
– If you don’t plan on attending the game at Levi’s Stadium next February, you will have one more opportunity to see the Kings play in their Stadium Series jersey live. The team will wear them against the Sharks, at Staples Center, in their final regular season home game on April 11.
– For those who enjoy the Kings’ vintage purple/gold jerseys (the one that will be worn at the three Legends Nights this season – Barry Melrose, Feb. 12 vs. Calgary; Tony Granato, Feb. 24 vs Detroit; and Luc Robitaille, March 7 vs Pittsburgh), from what we understand, the plan to convert that into the team’s full-time third / alternate jersey remains on the board, perhaps as early as next season.
UPDATE – Dec. 5, 2014
Earlier this week, we had been told the Sharks would be going with a teal jersey. Like the Ducks “all orange” sweater used in last year’s outdoor game, we assumed that was what the information meant. However, per some style notes originally posted by Icethetics, it appears the San Jose will also go with a two-tone approach. The jersey is expected to look similar to this (and we’ll admit, we’re a bit surprised they aren’t going with the fin logo, shown on the shoulder patch, just to mix it up a bit)…

Has any team ever worn white pants?
Yes, the Washington Capitals

As you know, the Kings wore the Forum Blue and Gold in solidarity with the Lakers. They wore the silver and black in solidarity with the L.A. Raiders. I think it’d be great if they move to Dodger Blue and white in the future. The two teams have close ties and the Kings’s Dodgers practice jerseys looked great. They could go to a Dodger Blue and white version of the old 60s/70s Kings crown on the chest.
