Besides the obvious trades and free agent moves that took place in July, the single event that seemed to energize the hockey world the most was the debut of the Dewy Show. With two back-to-back episodes that came out in August, it didn’t take creators Chris Pavlica and Zach Baumgartner long to realize they were on to something special. And now, we’re proud to announce that MayorsManor has partnered with the duo for an exclusive look at Episode 3.
First though, a little background on how the whole phenomenon has taken off and what’s coming next.
“The response for the first two episodes was very unexpected,” Pavlica told MayorsManor. “It’s one hell of a lot of fun to produce, but they’re so damn time consuming. Thus, the great response from Kings fans provided a ton of encouragement and inspiration. There are just two of us and we both have real production jobs that swallow up most of our time. We work on the Dewy Show at nights and on the weekends, whenever we can squeeze in time.”
That’s right; they’re just a couple of hockey fans trying to have some fun in their spare time. Fortunately for them, they seem to have quickly connected with their targeted audience.
“For Episode 3, just like the first two episodes, so much of what makes this show tick lies in the idiosyncrasies of our characters – things that would be lost on pretty much the entire planet, but not Kings fans, and certainly not hockey fans,” stated Pavlica. “Hockey fans are different. There is a reason why fans of any team are so die-hard and fall in love with hockey like no other sport. I’m glad there are so many of us out there!”
Like so many Kings fans, the creators took a liking to Justin Williams during the playoffs and he plays a central role in Episode 3.
“Early on, before Episodes 1 and 2 came out, we had a long list of simple ideas for additional episodes,” Pavlica shared. “One of those ideas was spawned by a clip we came across on YouTube where Drew Doughty was filming a scripted dialogue for some branded messaging. He was pretty nervous and kept screwing up. We figured that would be a good base for an episode but we knew we would need to bring in some other characters to make him feel even worse. Who better than Mr. Game 7 himself, Justin Williams?”
One of the many things that helped create such a buzz around the first few episodes were the subtle intricacies mentioned above – from things that were said by the characters, to stuff going on in the background. You can expect more of the same in Episode 3.
“There are definitely more instances of small stuff that people will recognize,” he continued. “From things as well-known as [Darryl] Sutter’s crazy talk, to repeating quotes from the 2014 Stanley Cup Rally after the parade, to moments as small as Justin William’s weird tongue thing he did while lifting the 2014 Cup.”
After enjoying the new episode below, we know the first question you’re going to have – ‘When is Episode 4 coming out?’ Pavlica reports that pre-production is done and they have some new surprises in store.
“We’ve had some additional help on the next couple episodes, which has been extremely beneficial. Big thanks to uber Kings fans Makana and Devo!” he remarked. “One little secret we’ll spill is that Dewy and the gang are about to run into some familiar ‘friends’ in the near future.”
