What’s the feeling like to be drafted?
It’s just an amazing feeling, today going into the day I did not know what to expect and even yesterday. To be picked by the Kings, such a special organization, Stanley Cup Champions in the last couple years. It’s an amazing feeling.
Some people expected you to go in the First Round, does getting drafted by LA lessen the blow
It’s great, anytime you want to go, you want to go to a great organization. It’s such a great team in LA. Definitely the first round was put upon me, but to go the organization that you want to go to, makes it that much better. Very honored to be selected where I was, and very proud.
Did you have a lot of talks with the Kings?
I had a couple with the Kings and definitely had meetings with them. Definitely saw a fit there, and it’s great to hear your name called.
Compare your style to a current NHL Player.
John Moore of the New York Rangers, he’s a player I play like an up and coming defenseman, good skating, good passing ability. Little things like that, that make a difference in the game is the way I kind of peg myself.
Assess your weaknesses and your strengths?
My skating is where my game is based around, the pivoting and the agility. Passing ability is something I need to work on now that I’m in the West there. Defnitely a lot of strength, the guys are big in that conference. To be able to have that stick ability and battling in the corners, that’s a big thing.
What’s it going to be like to play with Drew Doughty?
I’ve grown up admiring Drew, when I heard my name called that was the first guy I thought of. Wow, they’re Stanley Cup Champions and Drew Doughty’s on their team, what better way could it go. To be a part of this organization, and all those great players makes it very special.
