Dustin Penner with plenty to say on his way out of SoCal

March 20, 2014 By John Hoven

Dustin Penner shared these exclusive comments with MayorsManor following the Kings 2-1 shootout win over his Washington Captals…

On Dustin Brown chirping at him (see here):

“Well, I supposed he’s had to work on his chirping game. He’s had a lot of time to sit on the bench and think of one liners. I didn’t hear him, I was probably thrown off by his helmet.”

[note: Brown recently changed helmets]

On if he chirped at Drew Doughty:

“I didn’t mention the facial hair, but I did help him out because after the fight, we were on the ice together, he picked up one of the gloves and kind of looked and didn’t know. I had to remind him that his gloves are black, his team colors.”

On if it was more important to him to beat the Ducks or the Kings:

“We need wins any way we can get them now. Doesn’t matter who. Playing personal is secondary. Tonight, we managed to get a point but it would have been nice to get two. We gave them a pretty good run for their money, Quickie made some good saves.”

On getting this week over with:

“I’ve been bearing down. It was kind of  hanging over me, coming back. Not to LA, but to Anaheim. It was good to get that out of the way, but now we focus on San Jose and hopefully we can play the same way we did here in the last 30 minutes of the game.”

On the emotions of coming back to Staples Center for the first time since leaving the Kings:

“It was just nice. It was nostalgic coming back. You see a lot of familiar faces in the stands and on the other teams bench.”

Following the game on Tuesday night in Anaheim, Penner had lots more to say. Click here to read those quotes if you missed them.
