Kings can’t find goals – locker room quotes after 3-1 loss to Red Wings

January 12, 2014 By John Hoven

Coach Darryl Sutter on not being able to capitalize on opportunities:

“I think starting the second period we had several opportunities where we didn’t shoot the puck. Those are really 1-1 games so leaving it until the third there is a chance you are not going to get a reward for a great effort.”

Sutter on Mike Richards not scoring in 21 games:

“He played a good game tonight, it was probably his game with the most opportunities he has had in 21 games.”

Anze Kopitar on the overall game:

“We out-shot them, but I think we had some opportunities that we didn’t get any good shots off of. We were trying to do too much and we just have to make sure we get a good shot off and try and get the rebounds or whatever the case may be, we have to do a lot better with the opportunities.”

More from Kopitar:

“During the 5-on-3, I think we moved it around pretty well, we tried to put as much pressure on them as we could.”

Kopitar on playing Vancouver:

“We have to play our game, we have to score a few more goals. We need to play with an edge, and when we play with an edge, that’s when we play our best hockey.”

Justin Williams on the overall game:

“You have to finish your chances, but you can’t win every game. We certainly had enough chances to win the game tonight, and we didn’t do it. You really can’t dwell on anything because you can’t win every game. What you can control is the amount of effort you put out and we just got on the wrong end of the scoreboard tonight, we certainly allowed them to score those two goals.”

More from Williams:

“You’re never happy totally until you win, you always look back and reflect at the end of the game and think about what you could have done differently, and just try and do that better next time, like I could’ve scored on a couple of shots…“We were there tonight, I thought we had multiple chances to score on second chances and on rush opportunities, and it didn’t happen.”

Red Wings coach Mike Babcock on the overall game:

“They’re a good team obviously. Howard gave us the opportunity. Without goaltending you just don’t work as hard. They had quality chances and Howard made quality saves.

Babcock on Tatar and Sheahan:

“He did a real good job and Sheahan made a great play on the second one out of the defensive zone. They played hard. Those kids were good.

Tomas Tatar on his emotional game:

“As I’m sure you know, my dad passed away two days ago. This game and my goal were for him. It’s really hard for me to talk about, it was a big loss for me.”

Jimmy Howard on the overall game:

“It was a team effort tonight. We did a great job in both ends. We cut down on their second opportunities and if there was a rebound we had a defenseman there to clear it out.”
