Tanner Peason has beem recalled to the NHL following Manchester’s 3-1 win Wednesday morning. The game also marked a milestone for Mark Morris, who became the first coach to record 300 wins in pro and college hockey.
Originally selected by the Kings in the first round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, Pearson played junior hockey for the Barrie Colts (OHL). Last season, his first year as a pro, he recorded 47 points (18 goals, 28 assists) in 64 games – usually skating on what was dubbed ‘the White Line’ with Tyler Toffoli and Linden Vey.
In 15 games with the Monarchs this season, Pearson had notched seven goals and four assists.
To the surprise of many, including himself, the 6-foot-1 forward made his NHL debut during the playoffs last season, playing one game against the San Jose Sharks.
Prior to heading out to join the Kings, Pearson shared the following comments with MayorsManor…
On what Mark Morris has taught him:
“I think just all defensive. He knew how to play the offensive game but he knew how to settle down in the defensive zone. Good defense creates offense and it’s kind of translated into this year and through last year, too.”
On his favorite memory with Morris:
“Not really. I don’t know if there’s any really favorite memories with coaches you have. He’s been a good teacher for me so far and we’ll see what happens in the future, too.”
On adjusting to playing right wing for the Monarchs the past few games:
“I actually played right wing my second year in juniors, so I’m kind of used to it, but floating back and forth is not the best thing ever. It’s different, you take the passes different, take more back-end passes. It’s been an adjustment but I’ve done a good job so far.”
On if he was watching the Kings more closely since Linden Vey and Tyler Toffoli were called up:
“Yeah, I watch. If we don’t have a game and they do, I’ll probably watch it. We were in St. John’s when they had that stellar game and we were watching at some restaurant while they were playing. It’s kind of neat to see. They have to keep it going.”
On if he’s talked to Vey or Toffoli much since they were called up:
“I think I just texted Veysie congratulations on his first NHL point.”
Goaltender Martin Jones is also on his way up to join the Kings. See his MM interview from this morning at the link below. Jones talks about how he first heard of Jonathan Quick’s injury, expectations and much more.
