In Manchester’s 3-2 shootout win Wednesday night, goaltender Martin Jones stopped 25-of-27 shots in regulation and overtime, then denied 4-of-5 shooters he faced in the shootout – thus helping the Monarchs to their first victory of the season.
However, the big story of the night was AHL rookie – and LA Kings 2010 first round pick – Derek Forbort, who more than made his presence felt. The 21-year old defenseman scored his first professional goal, picked up an assist and had a fight.
