Rookie Camp Day 2 – Brandon Kozun raw quotes

Raw quotes from Brandon Kozun…

On the overall mood of Day 2:

“I’m feeling good. I put in a lot of work over the summer and I feel pretty good coming into camp. It’s good to get back on the ice, you start to miss it when you’re off the ice for awhile. It’s fun. It’s good to be out here with the guys again and playing some hockey.”

On any differences in his game compared to a year ago:

“I think it’s different, for sure. Every year pro, you try to learn new things and get better as a person and as a hockey player. Mark’s done a good job with me, there’s a lot of tough love at the beginning but it made me grow up as a person a lot and start to realize that there is a lot of things in my game that I need to work on. Every year I’m getting better and better and hopefully if I get a chance, I can show that.”

On any takeaways from the 2011 Rookie Series vs the Coyotes that may be applicable heading into this weekend’s games vs the Ducks:

“I guess it’s just experience. I’ve been in playing in the American League a couple of years now and you realize it’s a big stage. It’s a bigger stage and there are going to be a lot of people watching. You want to make players around you better. I think hat’s a probably a good sign of a goo player, he could probably play with anyone and make them better. That’s why I’m just trying to go into these games as a more of a leader. I’ve been around a coupe of years, so try to maybe help the younger guys out and just try to show them what I can do.”

On the thought of trying to outperform the top line guys:

“No, I’m not worried about that. Obviously those guys are unbelievable together and they have great chemistry. I’m just going to go out there and do my best and work hard and see what I can do.”

On his goals for camp:

“I think coming into the camp, you always to have the attitude that you’re trying to make the team. If you come here with the attitude that, “oh, I’m just here to have fun,” it’s probably not the right thing. I’m a competitive guy and obviously I want to play in the NHL, but at the same time you try to soak in as much information as you can and try to become a better player.”

On being uneasy about his future – i.e. needing waivers, the possibility of going back to Manchester, etc:

“No, I’m not even thinking about that. I’m just here to soak everything in, show them what I can do, and play my game…It’s part of the business, right? At the end of the day, hockey is a business. Can’t think about those things. You have to separate the off-ice from the on-ice and just go about your business.”
