Kings players have parting thoughts for Jonathan Bernier

June 23, 2013 By John Hoven

You’d be hard pressed to find a negative article on new Maple Leafs goaltender Jonathan Bernier. He was a consummate professional during his time as a member of the Kings organization.

So it’s no surprise that as today wore on and the news of his departure from LA began to spread, several of his now-former teammates took to twitter to send out some goodbye messages. Take a look…

Sucks to see Bernie go but I am so pumped for his opportunity in Toronto he’s gonna kill it!!

— Keaton Ellerby (@ellerby88) June 23, 2013

Good luck Bernie… #greatteammate

— Anze Kopitar (@AnzeKopitar) June 23, 2013

Would like to wish Bernie all the best in Toronto…great goalie coming your way…Welcome @Matt_Frattin and @scrivens_30 to LA!!

— Jarret Stoll (@jarretstoll) June 23, 2013

Sad to see a good friend in Joe Bernier leave, but really happy to see him get the opp he deserves with @MapleLeafs @LAKings will miss him.

— Willie Mitchell (@Willie_Mitch33) June 24, 2013

And from Strength and Conditioning Coach Ryan van Asten:

Sad to see Bernier go. He’s a great talent and even better guy. All the best with the @MapleLeafs, I know he’ll bring success there.

— Ryan van Asten (@RyanVanAsten) June 23, 2013

If you somehow missed it, GM Dean Lombardi held a conference call today as well, covering a myriad of topics like usual – including why Bernier was dealt to Toronto, the ‘assets’ he received back from the Leafs, changes to Willie Mitchell’s health, talks with Dustin Penner’s agent, negotiations with Bud Holloway and a potential new contract for Rob Scuderi. You can read all those comments at the links below.

He’s only sent two tweets this month. I wouldn’t read too much into that. Some guys are active on twitter, other aren’t. Who’s to say he didn’t call him or send along a private text message. Quick has always been very polite and positive when talking about Bernier’s situation in LA…even when he was still working out the rough spots in his game earlier this year, see here:
