Comments from the Chicago Blackhawks’ locker room after dropping Game 3 to the Kings by a score of 3-1…
Jonathan Toews on the overall game: “We lost the game. We’re not happy with the result. We will learn from it and do whatever we have to do in the next one. They played with more energy. They were excited to be home. They’re confident in this building and they showed that tonight.”
Toews on what could have been done to generate more offense: “I think that goes along with our defensive play and penalties we took. I just don’t think we had the pace and the speed we usually have and that’s something we have to improve on in the next one. If we do that, we’ll get more offensive chances. We’ll do the things we have to do to score.”
More from Toews: “They were physical all over the ice. We just have to keep our feet moving and take hits to move plays. We kind of got flat footed and we were watching each other too much. When you’re standing still you are an easy target for them to come hit you.”
Brian Bickell on what the Kings did differently in Game 3: “They had some different match ups. But it was up to us the way we came out. We didn’t come out the play we wanted to the first half of the game. I felt in the third we carried the puck and sustained pressure. We just need to carry that momentum into the next game.”
More from Bickell: “We didn’t deserve whatever came out of those first two periods. They had the spark being at home. They have been a good home team this year in the playoffs. We just need to match it coming into the game but unfortunately we didn’t but we need to be ready for Game Four. We killed that four minute penalty that gave us a spark and got us fired up to get that late with 40 seconds in the second. We had the momentum going into the third. I thought we played good hockey but we just need to be better than that.”
Duncan Keith on his high-stick on Jeff Carter: “Yeah it was accidental. Obviously I wanted to give him a tap but not where I got him. I felt bad. I’m glad to see that he came back. It was just a scuffle. It was an accident.
Keith on if he’s concerned the league will take a look at the high-stick: “I have no idea. I said it was an accident.”
More from Keith: “I thought we had some good shifts in the first and then it came down to one play where we weren’t good defensively in our own end and it cost us. We had some good chances early on. I had one early on in one of my first shifts but I didn’t get the bounce. Definitely I know we could do better.”
