Following the Sharks 2-1 win in Game 4, here’s what they were saying back in the San Jose locker room…
– Thornton on the team’s goal heading into the first period: “Just to work hard. That’s all our team is trying to do, just work hard. Get the battle level up. That’s all you really can take out of tonight’s game– just work hard and see what happens.”
– Thornton on Burns: “He’s been shooting the puck real well so it’s just a matter of time before he put one in the net .After the first shot, the puck just came right back to me. So he was open again, he just made a beautiful shot upstairs.”
– Thornton on if tonight was one of best defensive games the Sharks have played in the series: “Yeah, it was good.”
– Thornton on the emotion of tying the series: “After going down 0-2, they did what they’re supposed to do at home and now we did what we’re supposed to do. So now we just got to win one in LA. ”
– Thornton on his play: “I’ve been feeling good. Been feeling good. Coach has been giving us a lot of rest so once game time come,s a lot of guys are feeling good and feeling like they have a lot better energy that night.”
– Thornton on Brent Burns’ goal: “I just saw Burnsie wide open to be honest with you, and I saw Quick on the near post and just thought get it across to Burnsie and he should have an open net and make good on the play.”
– Thornton on how his line is playing: “Yeah, just stay with the game plan, that’s all you really can do. Our lines been working hard and it’s nice to see Burnsie get a goal today.”
Thornton on if there is momentum going to LA: “If we win, yeah. So we’ll see what happens.”
– TJ Galiardi on the overall game: “They had a couple of power plays and we were on our heels a bit in the third. But Neemo shut the door for us. He’s huge. He’s been unreal for us all season. He’s the reason we’re here right now, so we just have to do a little better job for him.”
– Galiardi on Thornton: “Jumbo, he was flying tonight. It was great. It’s so contagious when he’s doing that, it rubs off on every guy. Not just our line but throughout the lineup [as well]. I can’t say enough about his game tonight.”
– Coach Todd McLellan on the overall game: “We have to get it done using everybody. Again, we kind of adopted that theme that everybody is important on our team. We keep telling our guys that, and the message between the second and third was that as well. So six minutes, twenty minutes, make them count. You’re important, you’ve got to get the job done, and they did.”
– McLellan on Joe Thornton’s line: “I thought they were very good early, established a relentless forecheck, and used their size to their advantage. Obviously that got us the first goal. The momentum they created ran throughout the rest of the lines, and everybody jumped on board.”
