More from the scrum with Kings GM Dean Lombardi earlier today…
Question: A month or so ago you mentioned about starting talks with Rob Scuderi (who will become an unrestricted free agent this summer) about an extension. Can you give us an update on that situation?
Answer: “I think you’ll see us now, and we just started this afternoon, we kind of went back to the drawing board here to see the dominos. We have an idea now of what we can do to try and keep these guys together. You’ve got these young players (whose contracts are) up, so now you have to do the balancing act. The less term you give, you’ve probably got to keep it down to keep the veterans. It’s a balancing act now between the advantages of term, but also keeping the other pieces. We were kind of unsure, until obviously going through (what) we’ve done (here this week), now we know what we want to do so let’s start working on this.
Sully’s finally going to earn his money here this year.”
FYI – Sully is Jeff Solomon, Kings VP of Legal Affairs and the go to guy on contracts and salary cap issues.
The original conversation about Scuderi’s extension can be found here.
We still have a plethora of stuff from today’s chat with Lombardi that’s still to come next hour.
