Doughty and Scuderi talk Kings game at Dodger Stadium

April 8, 2013 By John Hoven

Drew Doughty provided the comic relief on Sunday night following the Kings loss in Anaheim. Yet, it was Rob Scuderi who had the line of the night – and he wasn’t even being interviewed…

– Doughty on it being an ‘All London’ game with him, Jeff Carter, and Corey Perry scoring goals: “London breeds good hockey players. That’s all I can say.  Pears and Carts score all the time, I just happened to get another one tonight. I don’t have many this year, but it’s good to chip in.”

– On the empty-net goal from Saturday maybe getting his momentum going: “Yeah, maybe. I’m on a hot streak, two goals in two games. (A hot streak?) For me! Mentally it’s a hot streak for me. I’m hoping to keep it going.”

– On the importance of getting at least one point against the Ducks: “It was huge to get the point. I was frustrated because I think we deserved better, we outplayed them. I don’t think there’s any doubt about that. We outshot them by a pretty big margin, and we came back three times down a goal. That shows a lot of character, you know, how bad we want to win. Too bad that we didn’t get both points.”

– On the frustration of not getting the second point: “It’s tough, but you know, we’re obviously frustrated – or disappointed with the loss. But, we’re happy with some of the things we did, especially in the last 20 minutes.  I think if we had an extra couple minutes in overtime we were gonna get one. We were spending it in their zone, we were getting some good chances. So, like I said, we’re happy with a lot of the things we did.”

– On the Ducks’ second goal: “I thought it was offsides to be honest. I was yelling that at the refs from the bench. It looked it, and then when I looked up at the jumbotron for a replay. It kind of looked like it.  But at the same time, I’m not positive about that. I was just yelling because obviously I didn’t want it to be a goal. But it happens at a fast speed, so that’s a tough call to make at all times.”

– On if they even worry about the division, given the Ducks large lead in the standings: “No, we would have loved to catch them.  I think (a win on Sunday) would’ve put us within six points. We play them again too, so that’s another two points we could have got back again. So we’re frustrated. We would have loved to catch them and win a division title. But, you know, it’s not out of reach yet. It’s gonna be tough, but we just have to take it game-by-game, and make sure we’re getting the two points, and win every night.”

– On the Kings playing January 2014 at Dodger Stadium: “No, I didn’t see that. Who are we playing? (The Ducks.) Oh, cool, that’d be cool. Yeah, I don’t understand how that would work…”

Rob Scuderi from across the room – “They’ll put an ice rink on the field Dewey.” (lots of laughs)

– Doughty: “Isn’t it too hot? The ice would be crappy for sure. It’d be fun though, playing in front of a bigger crowd instead of the 18,000 or whatever an NHL rink is. To be able to do that would be fun.”

Scuds also added in that they wouldn’t be skating on grass. The expression on his face was hilarious. He so wanted to have a smart come back for Scuds but I think “shut up” was probably the only thing he’d have been able to muster.

I love little moments like that, that show what good friends everyone on the team is

Scuderi didn’t say that. It was a reporter who made the comment about the grass.

Oh I couldn’t tell, thanks. Still a funny comment from whoever said it.

I love Dewey. He’s such a jock. Not necessarily the smartest guy off the ice, but his hockey IQ is off the charts.

I totally agree about Dewy’s hockey IQ.. let’s just say he is 100% focused on hockey and nothing else…
HEY – AS LONG AS WE WIN…. DEWY CAN BE JUST THE WAY HE IS… GO KINGS!
