Word Association: Kings players take on the hated Canucks

March 2, 2013 By John Hoven

word association - Vancouver Canucks
Drew Doughty was the first Kings player to openly talk about his hatred of the Canucks a few years ago.  Since then, several others have gone on the record with their disdain for the gang from Vancouver.  However, the other thing most commonly noted is that they’re a good team, usually followed by comments about them winning the President’s Trophy multiple times.

We’ll get into more of the ‘hatred’ factor in a subsequent article later today, with comments from several Kings’ players.  Also, we’ll be joined by coach Darryl Sutter, as well as broadcasters Bob Miller and Nick Nickson, for a second round of Word Association. But first, let’s check in with the players…

As part of our pre-game coverage we asked several LA guys to play some Word Association using the names of four Vancouver players. Like usual, this was all done one-on-one, so nobody heard what the other guy said – which a tad bit interesting when you compare their answers…

– On Daniel Sedin:

Dustin Brown – Which one is he?
Kyle Clifford – Swede
Dwight King – Which one’s the passer? I don’t even know their first names.
Alec Martinez – Skilled
Jake Muzzin – Twin
Jordan Nolan – Twin
Justin Williams – Scorer

– On Henrik Sedin:

Brown – The other one
Clifford – Twin
King – One’s a passer, one’s a scorer
Martinez – Also skilled
Muzzin – Other twin
Nolan – Twin
Williams – Passer

– On Roberto Luongo:

Brown – Big
Clifford – Scorer
King – Positional
Martinez – Big
Muzzin – Italian
Nolan – Dwight King (more on that here)
Williams – Orangutan (referencing his long arms)

– On Cory Schneider:

Brown – Not as big
Clifford – Get it on net
King – Athletic
Martinez – BC (Boston College)
Muzzin – Goalie
Nolan – Red
Williams – Steady Eddie

I always love these word associations. I love that only Williams discerned (or was able to) which twin was the passer and scorer. The others didn’t know. LOVE LOVE LOVE.

    Thanks for these!

And didn’t your tweet yesterday say something DS in the word association?
