Dwight King and a Roberto Luongo look-a-like contest

March 2, 2013 By John Hoven

One of the reasons we’re so fond of our Word Association segment is that it can be akin to sifting for gold. Amid the typical media questions – that some players find ridiculously boring – the format can suddenly produce a hidden treasure. And that’s what happened as we gathered comments to use in our pre-game article for tonight’s Kings at Cancuks game.

Jordan Nolan, usually a man of few words, blurted out ‘Dwight King‘ when asked about the first thing that came to mind when we said ‘Roberto Luongo.’

Pump the brakes! We need some more input on this one.

“He needs to get longer hair and slick it back,” said Colin Fraser. “He’s a big guy like Luongo though. So, if he had longer hair, I could see it.”

Kyle Clifford seemed to agree, saying – “If Kinger had a little more hair, maybe.”

Meanwhile, Dwight’s older brother, DJ King, who is now playing with the Ontario Reign (Kings’ ECHL affiliate), told us there’s actually more to the story.

“I agree with them,” DJ began, when told that several members of the Kings thinks his brother looks like Luongo. “He’s just has that Roberto look for sure. He was bugged about that growing up too. Everybody says he looks like Roberto. I’m not sure it’s such a bad thing either.”

So what does the man himself think of the comparison?

“He’s a great looking guy,” Dwight said with a big smile. “He has a little more Italian in him than me. But, he has a nice look to his face.”

Alrighty then, moving along…

  17. Michal says

    March 22, 2013 at 9:37 pm

Luongo’s eyes are too close together and Dwight is rockin’ the fivehead.
I don’t see it as much as Jordan does. I’ll still take Sacha Baron Cohen in “Talladega Nights” as Bobby Lu’s doppelgänger. And I’d love to chant “Lu-on-go” all day at him tomorrow!

    I agree

  25. Jeff says

    March 22, 2013 at 9:40 pm

The look like they could be long lost brothers. Only to be reunited through the great game of hockey. Except one is on a team with a cup and one is without. Go kings!

  26. Tim says

    March 22, 2013 at 9:40 pm

He does He does!! Sadly people say I look like Drew Carey when he was fat, either way I don’t wanna look like him

    They look pretty similar

  34. pennersbeard says

    March 22, 2013 at 9:45 pm

Disagree. Luongo has more prominent cheek bones. I can see where everyone is coming from though.

  35. jeremy says

    March 22, 2013 at 9:46 pm

  57. Phos Chek says

    March 22, 2013 at 10:26 pm

  64. Tyler Patko says

    March 22, 2013 at 10:34 pm

They both have rather long faces and big eyes. They have the same hairline and head shape generally. King has bigger ears but they do look pretty similar. I agree.

  65. MP says

    March 22, 2013 at 10:39 pm

    Agree

  66. Rob says

    March 22, 2013 at 10:42 pm

I actually agree on the physical attributes…same awesome ear to ear grin, but Bobby Lu has the nice flow going.

Obviously one looks like a Stanley Cup champ, the other couldn’t finish the job.

But we’ll tomorrow who comes out on top…my guess King goes top shelf on whoever is in net tomorrow afternoon.

  67. Janelle says

I can see the resemblance but King is more handsome than Luongo.

  68. Jen Dorkin says

    March 22, 2013 at 11:34 pm

Kinger has thicker eyebrows, less hair, different nose and more prominent ears (sorry) …but the eyes, crooked smile and overall look are very Luongo-esque!

Sure he does! Someone get that man a trapper.

  70. Trevor Clemente says
